The story of Gidget

I have a job in a town about a half hour from here. I am not naming the town to protect the guilty (me). I have had this job for going on 3 years, it is with the nicest, sweetest 95 year old lady you would ever want to meet. I dont work it often but when someone reports off or someone goes on vacation I fill in.

I used to do regular nights with this lady until my Mother moved in with me, then I couldnt do the hours I was doing. I had to be home with my Mother. So when I go and do this job I have to pay someone to come in and stay overnight with Mom, so I usually just get one of the other girls to fill it, but I do like being with this 95 yr old lady and occasionally I go because I have missed her.

Last summer when I was working at this lady's house I noticed 2 small dogs running all over the neighborhood. I knew they had some yorkie in them and I always notice yorkies since I had one for 14 years and just had to have him put down last summer. I couldnt believe they were just running loose! Its a pretty busy neighborhood, with cars coming and going. So I picked both of the dogs up and took them across the street to the owners house. I said " do you know your dogs are out?" They said "yes" and thanked me for bringing them to the door. Since then I noticed the dogs being loose, and the girls at work tell me they are always running loose.

Lately only one had been running loose..I can only assume the other one got hit by a car or someone picked it up. In my opinion these dogs were neglected. Long story short, when I went to work last week, I was standing outside about 11 pm smoking a cigarette ( I know....but I am TRYING) and this little yorkie comes up to me...I picked her up and took her into the house. It was too cold and too late for this little dog to be out running. ( Look at that cute little underbite)

I kept her in the house with me all night. I told the lady I worked for I was keeping her and taking her home with me.....she said "good". lol. The next morning when the gal came to relieve me she seen I had the dog and she said " I am so happy you are taking her, I am so afraid she is going to get hit by a car." That day 3 of the girls called me to see how the dog was and to tell me they were so happy I had taken her.

I know it looks like I am a dog napper, I prefer to be called a dog rescuer...lol...but whatever it is....this little girl is very happy with me. She has a fenced in yard to run in, she gets oodles of attention, plenty to eat and she sleeps in bed with me. She doesnt cuddle up to me at night, she lays in her own space but every once in a while she comes up to me and gives me a kiss. I like to think that means shes happy here. I will be almost asleep and she will come up and give me another little kiss (lol) and then she goes back and lays down in her spot.

So now you know, do not leave your dogs run loose if I am around. My only problem with this is her and Gabby, although they may be warming up to each other slowly but surely, they still act like they want to fight. I think I am just going to ride it out and see how it goes. I love them both. I want to keep them both. I just want them to get along. Hopefully that will come in time.

And that my friends is the story of Gidget!

Good fer you!
My good friend once snatched an Irish Setter out of a barn because the ex wife of somebody was using the dog for revenge. It had been his dog but after court battles, she got custody but wouldn't feed it much more than once a week and barely watered her at all.
Friend brought her to me (even though prior to that I had never had a dog) and gave me some instructions and all.
She was one fun dog!

I think rescues such as this or yers are called for.

Yorkies are expensive. I'm surprised the owner hasn't looked for the dog. I hope no one saw you take her. If they did you could be in big trouble if the laws in your town are anything like ours. Glad she got a good home though. All to often people get a cute little puppy then never take care of it. It sounds like she is better off with you.

You are an Angel Catch, rescuing Gidget (love the name)! She's adorable. Marissa, wants a Yorkie, and told her maybe this Christmas.Very sweet story, I love stories with Happy endings! :)
Hope you are having a great weekend! I'm not going to cut Katelyn's hair. I don't think she'd look like herself if I cut it.

Very nice of you to give Gidget home where she will be looked after. Hopefully you don't get 'caught' with her. We put micro chips in our dogs do they do that where you are? If they do you could see if she already one and if not put one in, that would be 'proof' that she is yours and not theirs...
Your pics are very nice :)

How wonderful! You rescued a sweet doggie from a neglectful situation! People who neglect their pets don't deserve to have pets. I'm so glad Gidget has a loving home with you! *Hugs*

Lets see you swiped an expensive dog while you were on the job. The dog is disliked by your old dog. Wow. You are one brave lady. I suspect the old owner may have not been to unhappy for the dog to be gone. They may not evem have noticed.

Nobody who loves dogs would let something that tiny just run around a busy street.

Oh Catch you are so bad...haha...Well, I have to agree with you.....dogs need to live where they are wanted and loved. I seriously doubt she is going to be missed by those people. The other dog no doubt got hit by a car and killed. She looks to small of a dog to be running lose, cars can't see them, and believe me, it is an awful thing to hit a dog or a cat, I have hit one of each, and it made my stomach sick for weeks.

Good for you! I work at an animal shelter part time & you would not believe then amount of phone calls we get of loose dogs as opposed tolost dogs. Very sad. These dogs all must belong to someone!!! Thank you for rescuing a homeless one! You may want to go to a vet or police station & see if she's microchipped. Personally whoever left her out for lost probably does not deserve her, but what if she was stolen & then lost?

I am so happy you are a dog napper! Those people should be turned in! I hope the other dog found a person with a heart like your too. Funny thing is dogs like yorkies cost $ and are usually not owned by the type of people who would treat them that way. It is so sad. But I am glad Gidget has a happy ending. If I had the $ I would open my own animal rescue center. There is a pit bull mix here at the local vet who was rescued from Katrinia. She has been there 1 1/2 and no one has taken her because she has health issues. She is teh sweetest thing. I hope someone like you comes along her way. Bless you and your furry babies!

BTW~If I am lucky enough to mak eit to 80 I will live in my pjs and robe!

I am SO glad you rescued the poor dog. Several years ago i tried to return loose dogs several times. Finally and inevitably they got hit by cars.

From now on, I don't hesitate to rescue them after one attempt to return them. These owners are breaking the law and do not deserve to have dogs.
