Larry and I went to dinner with friends Friday night and the fellow with us ordered fried fish and mashed potatoes and gravy.....I told his wife that was a strange combination.....she said when she has fish for dinner she always makes mashed potatoes with it and tomato soup to put over the mashed potatoes. It got me to thinking of some of the strange combinations we eat.

One of my favorites is one my Grandmother used to make. You take about 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed, cook them in a pan of water....in the meantime....fry about a half pound of bacon till crisp.....take bacon out, leave dripping in, add about 2 T flour and enough water to make a white sauce. Then after the white sauce is made add the bacon, large can of spinach, and cooked potatoes...season with vinegar to taste.....it looks like dog vomit but taste delicious!!!

One of my favorite meals is fried pork chops, potatoes that have been peeled and quartered and boiled ( then brown them in the pork chop drippings). Some Leseur ( sp) peas ( I love those kind of peas, cant spell it though) and cottage cheese.

Do you have any strange concoctions you like for mealtime???

Not really- I like simple meat and tater meals. The thought of mashed potatoes and tomato soup makes me a little sick.
Your grandma's specialty made me think of hot German potato salad minus the spinach.
Have a great day Catch

I can't really think of much. I do like brussel sprouts with vinegar on them. I also like peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

You had my interest until you added the spinich..YUCK. My hubby would like it though, it reminds me of turkish spinich..

Etli Ispinak

Turkish Spinach

1 lb. Ground round

2/3 stick butter

4 medium onions, diced

4 boxes frozen chopped spinach (or 40 oz. Fresh)

2 15-oz. Cans Tomato sauce with tid-bits

1 rounded teaspoon salt

8 oz. Water

½ cup rice rinsed in ¼ cup water

Brown meat in its own fat. Remove meat. Pour off fat, melt butter. Lightly brown onion. Add cooked meat, spinach (defrosted goes faster), tomato sauce, salt, water, and rice. Simmer about 1 hour. Tastes better the next day. Keep a bit juicy by adding a bit of water or tomato juice. Serve with a spoon of yogurt or sour cream, and French bread.
