alzheimers

who is this woman
who looks like my Mom.

she purses her lips,
Mom never did.

shes rarely happy,
Mom always was.

she hides stuff,
from who, I wonder?

I miss who she used to be.
Is this some cruel joke?

how can she look so much
like the person shes not?

conversations are a thing of the past,
she cant keep up with something like that.

I do my best for her
even though she doesnt care

because I know in my heart
somewhere my Mother's in there.

Your poem really sums it up, it is like the person you knew has disappeared and someone else is in their body. My Dad had it and so did three of his brothers.

It is such a cruel disease....for everyone. A few in my family have had altzheimers, and they say it is hereditary........kind of a scarey thought.

In my most recent AARP magazine, they wrote they now have a drug that is working to stop the progression of the disease, and they are working on one the can reverse it......It would be such a wonderful breakthrough if they do find one......

((((((((((Catch))))))))))) tight hugs for you......

I helped Old Mr Foote with his Wifey June who had Alzheimers for the last 3 years of her life....... some days we had to just laff at her antics because it was the only way to deal with it..... I know its not a laughable disease, far from it, but it was how he coped..... while I held his hand.....

Can you imagine having me as ya care giver :)

much love to you catch, a very moving post......

I know what your feeling. At one time or another we took care of both my mother and Betty's mother and both changed and became people we didn't know. It was hard to take.

Catch,
Very beautiful and moving poem. I am so sorry to hear you are going through this with your Mother. Sometimes I wish I could just give more than cyber hugs and prayers. I can only imagine how hard this is and how sad it is to see your mother change day by day. You are an awesome daughter and you are a wonderful friend to her, that together you will do your best to get through this.

Sending hugs to you and your mom!
Take care and I hope you have a good weekend.

Catch,
That is a beautiful poem! It must be terribly frustrating to watch as she loses her identity. Sad, sad,, sad.
