F Bomb

Everytime I have a joke or something with the "F" word on here I always kind of cringe when I think of Dr John reading it. And Im sure some of you may think...she professes to be a Christian but she uses the F word. So I am going to tell you my theory of the famous F word.

There are times it offends me....when I hear young kids walking down the street using it, when I hear them rappers singing it in a song, and when people use it to just be using it.

I would rather hear the f word than to hear someone take Gods name in vain. The f word is not a sin, its just a nasty word that can take the smile right off of someones face if you use it at the right time. Some people almost turn white when they hear it. But it is just initials......for the use of carnal knowledge> F.U.C.K. ( I may not have the meaning exactly correct but its close enough). When I was going to high school I dont ever remember using that word or hearing my parents use it. But today it seems to be a much used word. And I am as guilty as the next one. Sometimes it seems to make a joke halarious to me.

I use to have an elderly woman for a neighbor..she was the town librarian. When I moved in next door to her we became friends and we used to talk out back over the fence. The first time she said the f word I about fell over! And then I just cracked up!!! She made me laugh so many times! I have very fond memories of her. She has since passed away.

If I had ever said the f word in front of my Father I know I would have got slapped in the mouth! He would never tolerate that! Times have changed so much havent they? I do think you have to have a little class when using the f bomb. Over using it is just plain trashy. Its a word for special occasions...to shock, mostly. People look at you and they think you are all prim and proper and then you let it fly!!!! Just once! Then 9 times out of 10 they will crack up. Of course there are always those who cant take a joke. And to them I say.."pffft".

I am not justifying the word.....but to me....its just a word. I apologize if I offend anyone with it.....some jokes are just better with it in them. Dr John seems to be a pretty good sport who rolls with the punches......and I would never offend him on purpose. I think he knows that.

What I would really like to know is how do you feel about the use of the f bomb? Is it just a word to you??? or does it totally disgust you?

The f word is used alot these days and it doesnt even bother some people when they use it for every other word to me that is distasteful and some of these people had to be brought up better than that.

Great topic Catch.

Am I offended by it? No. But I think using it every other word is boring and shows a lack of creative thinking.

But like you, sometimes it's just funny, and sometimes no other word will get the "funny" across the same way.

I agree with you Catch.

It can be a very descriptive word in a joke or if you are really annoyed.
But, when I hear the kids round school using it every other word like an adjective I have to stop them and say "do you talk like that in front of your mother/father?" Invariably they say no so I ask "then please don't speak like that in front of me!" I always get an apology. They don't know they're saying it half the time!

To me though the "C" word is even worse!

sadly, i use it all the time. all.the.time. :( when i hear it though it makes me cringe. weird.

Sometimes there is just no other word that fits that feeling, other than the F-word. Like you if my dad had ever heard me say it!!! Truth is I never heard my dad swear once, nor my father-in-law. Must be us women then?

You know what gets me? "Christians" say that God is the same then, as He is now, as He will be in the future, yet, the Pope decides that Purgatory doesn't exist. TIMES CHANGE. And regardless of what anyone thinks feels or says, things manifest regardless.

The "F" word is not "sociably acceptable" to some, but with discernment and the right 'timing', you're not killing anyone. It's the tone and manner of which you speak it with.

Cheers! :)

I look at it pretty much the same way you do...and I almost stroked OUT the first time I heard my dad say it...& I still laugh when my mom says it. She SO wants to be a "cool kid"...hee.

I am always being chastised for using it in front of my grandchildren!
Not because I mean to but it's (unfortunately) become just another word and I'm not even aware I'm saying it half the time!

I actually use it a lot. When the kids are in bed, when just me and the husband are out. I think its my way of showing myself i am having a kids free time. it shows up on my blog a lot too!

I hate hearing it as every second word, and i don't know that I have heard it in a song before, but i am not big on music.

hey catch
I am the worst with bad language. A friend once told me that the words we use are a reflection of who we are. I will be in need of a shovel and a pair of boots, cause I am knee deep.

interesting topic! I'm not usually offended by the word; it's all of the matter of how it's being used. I actually use it a time or two myself - usually when I'm watching sports! LOL

Since Catch decided to refer to me twice I feel a need to respond. There are words that I can taste. The F word and the S word taste like the soap my mother used to wash my mouth out when I used them as a kid. Sometimes lava, sometimes fels naptha but always horrible. So I have trouble using them but the rest of you didn't have my mother so do what you do.

I'm in it knee deep with ez...no I'm probably up to my neck in it

I'll admit they all fly out of my mouth at some time or another, but not often. I too was brought up in a no swearing household. My parents would NEVER tolerate it & I would get my mouth washed out with soap if I said them. They said some, but never the f-bomb. I don't believe to this day I've ever heard it come out of my dad's mouth!
And I am disgusted by the c-word & will not use it. If I have to it's "C U Next Tuesday"!

I think to most people in general, the F-word brings to mind a picture of just one meaning.......

I raised my children to not cuss, about the only way to do that is not cuss in front of them. I was never married to anyone who cussed, and so the kids grew up not using words like that in the house. I suppose it is, just a word, but I kind of cringe when people use it out in public. I find it rather embarrassing, and my kids always shoot me a quick glance when someone uses that word, wondering, I suppose what I am thinking. I have three grown sons, and I know that among their friends they must cuss, but not in front of me, ever. And I don't generally curse, unless I drop a brick on my toe.

You're right - it's become a common place thing to drop the F bomb - thats too bad....but I am guilty as charged...

The F word is just one of the words that lives on my list of things I don't usually say. I'm not offended by it like I am by the C word.

Catch,
As a "writer", I love words. I like the words; putrid, succulent, and gongoozler. I like the way they feel when they exit my mouth. I can recite George Carlin's "seven words you can't say on television" from rote memory as easily as I can the "Our Father", or the "Hail Mary."
I use the "F" word alot in conversation, mostly for impact or to convey intensity. I rarely use it when I'm angry.
You mentioned in a previous post about folks going out to dinner twice a week these days so that going out to dinner is no longer special. We witness kids using it with a frequency that gives us pause about their upbringing and/or their schooling. The point is "today's" generation is not as offended by it's public usage like our parents and we were/are. It is a part of today's vernacular. It is common place.
By-and-large words heard or used don't F'n bother me. ;-)

Great post, Catch! I NEVER used to use the word, but I do now. It is not a word that rolls out of my mouth "just because" though. I find the shock value of the word funny at most times. I think maybe I am trying to catch up on all those years I did not say it! LOLOL The time and place to say it is the thing most people need to learn, though. I agree about the C word. A person that uses that word usually ends up on my cutting room floor. hugsssssssssssss

There is a time and place for almost anything. I agree with you. My husband or I may drop the F bomb on occastion, but if he takes the Lord's name in vain I say, "Now you apologize to Jesus!" . LOL. Seriously. :) In certain situations, like you said, it can be TERRIBLY offensive. And ick...I hate it when children speak that way.

It's just a f*cking word.

Oops ... sh*t ... how did that happen? Ooops ... sorry about one too. What the frig is wrong with me today? Oh ... that's better. :)

Hugs Catch!

looks like I'm in the minority here but I don't like to hear the f word, especially from women. I know it's just a word and that it's not even actually swearing but I find it to be a vulgar and crude word- nothing against those who do use the word. Even so, I don't find it nearly as offensive as the c word. And the f word is most definitely overused.

Most of the time, hearing the F word doesn't bother me. It just depends on the setting.

I use it sometimes. Usually if I'm really upset or to get a point across.
