Driving

I was going to work Saturday night, just cruising up the highway, had the radio on and all of a sudden 'whhhhomp', all I seen was something big and bloody in the middle of the road. And all I could hear was my muffler...loud..very very loud. So I pulled over and looked back and seen what I was sure hoping was a deer. It was so mangled I couldnt tell. But it was in the middle of a State Route so I was pretty sure it was. I had to go back home and get another car so I went to my brothers house, he is a retired Leiutenent from the State Patrol. I told him what happened and he said ' Are you sure it was a deer?' I said lets go back and look and make sure, so we did. By the time we got there it was kind of scattered all over the road from people running over it. We went back to his house so he could look at my car, the muffler system was laying almost on the ground. At first when I heard it after I hit the deer I was afraid somehow it got hooked onto the bottom of my car. I was thankful it was a deer and not a body but I felt so bad about the deer. Needless to say I was late for work.

One time my Mother was taking my Aunt to the store. My Mom was in her robe b/c she wasnt getting out of the car. Our Mailman had a big dog that followed him all around town everyday while he delivered the mail. Well...my Mom hit that dog and killed it. She was so upset and crying that she forgot all about being in her robe and there she is in the middle of the street screaming and crying ! It taught her not to be going around in her robe.

When I was in high school one of my girlfriends and I were cruising around town in her car. We were probably 16. She hit a little boy. He ran right out in front of us. All I can remember is seeing him bounce around on the hood. Thank God he was not hurt real bad, although we didnt know that at the time ...my girlfriend and I were terrified...we sat in the car and cried. When I think about that time I still get upset..it happened so fast. Summertime is here....kids will be running about, sometimes not paying attention. Be careful.....it can happen so fast. Watch for the kids!

Another beautiful day today ~ I hope the rain is gone for a while.

We have lots of deer car accidents around here. I had a lady in the parish hit a deer and the deer fell down. she went home and told her son so he drove out to look. Just as he got there the deer stagered out onto the road and he hit it. Both of them hit the same deer. Be glad you didn't get hurt as sometimes they bounce up and through the window.

I'm sorry for your fright..i can understand how it all was a bit scary.

Glad that you are okay as you could have been hurt too.

Thanks for spreading the word out there for safety. It's something we should all take to heart....

That's an experience I never want to have!

(By the way, don't mention deer in front of Dr. John - he's got a campaign against them, you know! Let's see if he reads this, shall we? Shhhhhhhhh! :D )

The people here speed so bad. Kristi and I made signs one year to tell them to slow down and actually stop at the stop signs, and someone called the cops on us for it! LOL

I once hit a bunny. He just darted out in front of me.I bawled like a baby praying that it would die quick and not suffer. I called my mom in hysterics and freaked her out cause she thought something was really wrong.

I wiped out 4 turkeys at once. A whole flock was in the gravel road and I was speeding and could not get stopped in time. Feathers flew everywhere.

Isn't it awful when you hit something with the car? I am glad you are ok. We are always on the lookout for deer when we go to the in-laws.

Gary: its a scary site I know...glad he was ok.

Dr John: I know it could have been so much worse. We really have to watch out for deer here too. They are everywhere.

kristi: ever since that accident when I was 16 when I pass someone walking on the side of a road I always look in my rear view mirror to make sure they are still walking after I pass them...lol..the girl that I was with when I was 16 said she does the same thing...

Chana: I always worry about the little kids..I live right on a front street so when my grandkids are out frint I am spastic...I prefer them in the back with the privacy fence.

Wow, scarey!

My neighborhood is usually pretty quiet, but every now and then we get some jerk roaring through really fast and I'm terrified that a small child (God forbid, maybe even my child) will be hit. I'm always outside with Snuggle Bug and close by, but it still terrifies me. I hate it when people speed through residential areas!

My truck is a deer magnet. I feel your pain. Deer are the most dangerous animal to man. Injuries and fatalities caused by hitting deer outnumber all other animals put together.

Karen: Exactly Karen!

Fuzz: I have hit 2 deers....one wasnt bad at all...just grazed the side of my car.....this one is gonna cost me a bit more.
